Sunflower City

Sunflowers are one of my favorite summer blooms. The plants vary in size and color. Some are tall and produce one large flower. Others are a bit shorter with several blossoms that bloom on branched stems.

This is a mix of sunflowers called "Fun in the Sun". They stand tall at the edge of my garden. I'm sure they are over 15 feet tall. I can see them waving to me in the wind from my porch.

This varieties is Hallo. They are just my size at 5 feet. I have so many of these beauties in my garden this year. Their faces greet me with warm smiles.

This sunflower is called Chianti. The deep burgundy color is unique. The tallest this velvety plant will be is about 4 to 5 feet. I have them planted near my cucumbers.

All of the different varieties compliment each other so well. I bet a few would look great in a vase on my kitchen table. I can't bring myself to cut them. I enjoy watching them dance in the wind.

Sunflowers are so happy. Gazing at their beauty puts a smile on my face. Note to self.....grow more sunflowers next year

Oh, Man! I was thinking of growing sunflowers next year on the far side of my very small garden. Your photos have convinced me to do so! As for vase? Yep, sunflowers do well...at least the wild variety with small blossoms. I used to work in an ag office in our farm community and the fellows (who worked in the field all day) would bring me a large "bouquet" of what appeared to be bedraggled sunflowers. They always recovered after being put in a vase of water. They looked gorgeous. And so do your photos! Wow...long comment. Caffeine! LOL

Oh, my GOODNESS!!! Those sunflowers are absolutely lovely. You rock! So do they! I never really liked sunflowers when I was growing up (Arizona produces mostly cacti) but I think they are growing on me, thanks to your splendiferous photos. Thanks for sharing.

I love sunflowers, and their happy 'faces'. Your's are all beautiful, as are your pictures. Those first two look like they should be on the glossy page of a magazine. They are awesome!

They are all lovely, I don't know too much about sunflowers, mostly that I like them and that their seeds taste good! The red one is interesting! As is the very light one.

My neightbor, who has the most beautiuful sunflowers every year, just told my husband that he plants birdseed every year to get his wide variety of sunflowers. He says, the only problem is, you can't use the seed from the plants for a crop for next year. I thought that was an odd thing to do. But you know I am going to give it a try. Why not?

Love the beautiful sunflowers - that burgandy one is so cool; I've never seen them before. I'm going to plant my garden of sunflowers to feed the birds next summer.
